Let’s say I have a text based config/data file governed by some standards.

In order to make the data web friendly, I wrote a parser to convert this config/data file into JSON. It is essentially ugly string manipulation, and that’s it. Very fragile.

I have been looking into doing things on a more professional level, by writing a lexer/parser and not just relying on chewing gum and duct tape.

My question is: do I even need a lexer for this? (I don’t know much about them but have been learning) Is string manipulation the best I can do here?

Not looking for a “how-to”, just your advice/guidance and pointing me in the right direction. Thank you!
